CHARGE!!!

#MSResearch #MSblog. New trials for Progresive MS

YESTERDAY  WE HAD THE OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE MS-SMART TRIALS FOR PROGRESSIVE MSERs.

SIR JEREMY (DR. JEREMY CHATAWAY) IS LEADING A UK WIDE TRIAL FOR THREE DIFFERENT DRUGS THAT IS DRIVEN BY LOTS OF NEUROS AND NOT PHARMA.

HOPEFULLY THESE WILL HAVE SOME EFFECT ON THE  PROGRESSION,

WHAT ARE THE DRUGS?
  • RILUZOLE- DIRTY DRUG THAT BLOCKS GLUTAMATE AND SODIUM CHANNELS
  • IBUDALAST- A PHOSPHODIESTERASE INHIBITOR
  • AMILIORIDE- AN ION CHANNEL INHIBITOR
  • PLACEBO

THIS WHOLE PROCESS STARTED MANY, MANY YEARS AGO AND HAS TAKEN YEARS TO GET THE FUNDING AND THE REST IN PLACE AND TO SELECT THE DRUGS IN A RATIONAL WAY.

THE UK MS SOCIETY HAS BEEN INSTRUMENTAL FOR GETTTING THIS STUDY OFF THE GROUND, BUT THE PROMISE 2010 PROCESS FROM THE NMSS IN THE USA SHOULD ALSO BE  ACKNOWLEDGED  FOR ITS PART IN FOCUS THE INITATIVEI CAN REMEBER THE VISON BEING SPOKEN ABOUT AT A MEETING IN NEW YORK MANY MOONS AGO.

ALSO BIG CONGRATS TO UK NEUROS IN THE "CLINICAL TRIALS NETWORK" WHO CAN WORK TOGETHER TO GET THESE TASKS  OFF THE GROUND. THE LEAD NEURO HAS CHOPPED AND CHANGED OVER THE YEARS AS THINGS HAVE BEEN MOVED FORWARD.

More details are available from the MS-SMART website, where you can register your interest for this trial.

ARE THERE OTHER WHITE KNIGHTS OUT THERE ON CRUSADES?
